Philosophy
Kris
Brown first developed a passion for fitness studying
Anatomy & Physiology in college back in the late
80’s. She was a big devotee of aerobics, weight
training, kick boxing and anything outdoors. It was
during her time white water rafting when Kris
injured her back during a fall and was later
diagnosed with herniated discs in the L4 and L5.
Throughout the next five years she endured epidural
shots, pain killers, and physical therapy but these
options only provided Kris very temporary relief. It
was in 1997 that a girlfriend encouraged her to take
her first yoga class. At the onset of her practice
Kris began noticing both the physical and relaxing
benefits of yoga. Kris noticed a difference
immediately when she could actually get out of bed
in the morning without grimacing in pain!
It was
five years later that Kris expanded her practice and
used it to take her through a journey of
self-awareness and acceptance as she went through
her divorce. It was during this time that Kris began
teaching and sharing with others the calming,
restorative and physical aspects of yoga. A year
later, Kris also became certified in Pilates and took the
business “mobile” offering safe, effective and
well-balanced programs to the community. Fitness
with a Twist specializes in private instruction,
corporate training, free lance at health and fitness
clubs, workshops, nutritional support, yoga parties,
retreats and implementing health & fitness programs
for schools. Kris’ number one priority was, and
still is, helping others find strength, flexibility
and stability to both body and mind. The same way
that it has helped her!
Kris
holds numerous certifications including personal
training, Hatha yoga, mat Pilates, Zumba, Kinesis;
and specialty certificates in sports nutrition and
aquatic exercise. She is committed to on-going
continuing education courses, online study, workshop
trainings and a deep personal practice and training
schedule. Because of her strong and eclectic
background, Kris has been offered many opportunities
to work with a diverse background of clients ranging
in abilities and special needs including children
with physical disabilities limited to wheelchairs,
dancers looking to increase their strength and
decrease injuries, tri-athletes looking to increase
their endurance and improve performance and clients
rehabilitating from hip replacements or back
surgeries.
Kris
believes that exercise is not just for physical
results, but to improve quality of life in general.
Her hope for each of you is that you will find your
inner strength and achieve an improved sense of
well-being all while having a little fun!
